Burghley House - flckr - xposurecreative.co.ukBurghley House - Stamford
The epitome of grandeur, Burghley House is a mightily impressive pile of bricks. This Elizabethan mansion boasts 18 state rooms, crammed with works of art, fine furniture, rich tapestries and more besides. The inside may be a feast for the eyes, but outside is a triumph too. With Capability Brown landscaped parkland, deer park and a sculpture park there's plenty to amuse visitors. Enter the Garden of Surprises, with its mirrored maze, fountains, swivelling busts; all hidden from the outside! Come springtime, the private south gardens are opened up to the public for the spectacular display of flowers. Visit www.burghley.co.uk to plan your trip.

There's an extensive complex of sand dunes and saltmarshes, with a network of paths enabling you to explore the area without upsetting any natural habitats. If it's a bit nippy out, you can warm up with a nice cup of tea in the cafe, while the visitor centre will teach you all you need to know about the biodiversity of the area. If you fancy an ecological adventure, hop over to www.lincstrust.org.uk to find out more.

Catch a live show in the entertainment area, play the slot machines and video games in the arcade or indulge in a bit of retail therapy in the Market.  There's crazy golf, go-karting and bouncy castles and slides, too. Chances of you getting bored? Slim! To check out all that Fantasy Island has to offer, go to www.fantasyisland.co.uk.

Clouds - flckr - karindalzielCloud Watching Bar - Anderby Creek
If you're after something a little more sedate, then we may well have the answer. How about a spot of cloud watching? The Cloud Bar on the beach at Anderby Creek is the world's first Official Cloudwatching Area, as designated by the Cloud Appreciation Society. Instead of alcohol, the bar's menu lists different cloud formations. Lie back in one of the specially designed cloudwatching seats and swivel round the mirrors to see different parts of the sky. All that relaxation has got to be better than a hangover the next morning! And if you want a change from looking skywards, the bar has great sea views too!
